This collection of writing explores the overarching concept of choice and will within the confines of depression. Diagnosed with this mental illness myself, this assemblage of research reflects my own sense of urgency to understand and destigmatize my own condition. In parallel, whilst making sense of the construct, explorations are made on its presence within the realm of games, and its use within entertainment through the genre of ‘choose your own adventure’.
It contains a combination of scientific studies, phenomenology, psychological/physical symptoms of depression, an examination of gaming mechanisms and lastly, a brief study of the ‘choose your own adventure’ genre.
Distilling all the information compiled in the previous segments, the final section composes a creative written expression in the form of ‘choose your own adventure’.
